A Sweet Little Blessing...
I have hesitated writing a post about our 'needs' as a 'small, grassroots, just starting out', ministry.
But today, my mindset has been changed by a little girl. God has sent this little girl to us as a reminder of faith, and God's blessings to come!
Yesterday (Friday June 28) in Liberia, a little girl was quietly placed on the ground at one of our Haven foster homes while the mother proceeded to run away, leaving her child behind. After many of our people went canvassing the neighborhood, asking if they recognized the child, and after contacting the government office for child's welfare, we had no choice but to place her in one of our homes. You see, we can't take in any new children. We have our 11 children because the government requested our care for them, so we quickly formed The Haven Children's Program in the Monrovia area, on pure faith that God will provide. We soon were provided with a few gracious and wonderful sponsors to cover most of our monthly needs. This little program was not going to be a growing program until His Safe Haven is built up in Gbarnga (a 4 hour drive away from Monrovia). We have no pre-existing funding for such a program. .
God has blessed us tremendously! We have moved all the foster homes in a better, cleaner area, nicer homes and for a lot less rent to pay. All the children continue gaining weight, and we have had almost NO MALARIA in two months!!! Honestly, we were dealing with malaria on a weekly basis.
Anyways, back to this one little girl.
We are OFTEN approached or just handed 'special needs' children. We try and help the families as best as we can, with what limited resources we have, and that's all we can do at this time. We have no 'big funders', no projection of funding, and definitely no millionare or benefactor in our pocket:0) We do have a very big God who has called us to help with what we have, and to have faith!
God has us at a 'be still' time right now. We have no idea when or where funding will come from to build this huge village, but God does! And he said HE WILL BUILD IT!
So, today we have a sweet little girl in one of our foster homes. God reminded me 'in my state of panic and lacking of faith', his vision ..."His Safe Haven is her 'safe harbor,' have faith." God already knew this little girl would be dropped on our footsteps, he knows WE don't have any funds for taking more children. But this is a faith based ministry! His Safe Haven is God's ministry! Our purpose and vision have not changed, just because we don't have a village built.
This little girl, we are naming Blessing, is about 5 years old and has many issues related to possible hydrocephalus (large head). She can crawl and can speak a little. I can't imagine what her poor little heart is going through right now, being her mother just left her. I also can't imagine what her mother must be feeling right now. I know she loved her to search out our homes, knowing that her little girl would be taken care of. We cannot even fathom the desperation of so many mothers like this one.
Blessing now has a very loving foster mom, and a few foster siblings now. She will be loved and cared for, in a safe place. This little girl has stolen my heart. SHE IS THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF WHY WE DO THIS!! She is loved so much already, and yet she has no idea:0)
