Protecting our Haven Children

Ebola is a dangerous and deadly virus in Liberia right now, at an epidemic stage.  My heart is so heavy and deeply saddened for so many friends and family that are on the front lines of this deadly disease, and a few fighting for their lives as I write this. My 'Momma's' heart is worried about our precious Haven Children over there, all my amazing foster families and team, my Liberian brother and his family, and many pastors that I care deeply about. But...I am laying down those worries at the cross of our Savior, knowing that he holds each one of us in his hand.
When I was in Liberia all last week, we did a ton of Ebola awareness training and gave my moms strict instructions to follow, then prayed over each one for God to give a hedge of protection!

I spoke with my Program Coordinator, Josephus this morning, and he assured me that everything is good today, no one has any illness, and we have implemented a semi 'lock down' for each of our foster homes.  Supplies will be delivered tomorrow, so there is no reason for leaving the homes except for small fresh food essentials that they might need.  Sometimes these can be bought right in their own neighborhood, so we are hoping this limits any traveling and no contact with outsiders.  We have also implemented a 'no visitors' rule, to limit other contact with people.  There are a lot of protocols we have in place now that will help protect all our foster homes and team.
Last Friday, we gathered all the foster moms and Haven Children, and brought them all to the last  training meeting for my week in Liberia.  Not an easy task in the pouring heavy rain!  All the children did so well!  We celebrated our weeks end with chicken and rice for everyone!

Please Lord, cover this country with your protection, wipe out this evil disease, open hearts to listen, move hearts to repent and call on your name, give strength to those fighting Ebola now, place a shield of protection on each and every one of those on the front lines. We know you hold each one of us in your hand and during this difficult time draw comfort and peace knowing you are in control. All the glory and honor to you God! Amen!

Play Day and Therapy Day!

What a blessing to be able to spend quality time with each of the children, seeing how they have improved and trying to get a laugh out of each one of them...not always an easy task.

Caught William smiling!
Gracie has been consistently laughing at the silliest things for the past two day!  It's awesome!

Alvena is such a special girl...loved hearing her laugh today!

No problem smiling for these two!

Jr. loves the walker and playing games and following directions!

He's always so serious around me...but he's quite the happy guy!

I could not catch Diamonds smile on camera, but he was actually smiling, laughing and loving our story time!

Laughing all the time!

A lot of giggles out of her today!

Hannah loves talking on the phone and is so animated!  She's a hoot!

The Three Musketeer's!

Our Physical Therapist actually evaluated each child today and instructed each of the mom's.

This little one was laughing and hamming it up today!  Didn't catch the smile on camera...

Eric was really occupied with this sock and cup!  It was so cute to watch!

Here's our miracle girl!  Just look at how strong she is now!  She loves riding in the truck, smiles the whole time!

All the evaluations went great today.

Gracie laughed all afternoon!

Day 2 With the Haven Children...

ALL the children have gained weight this month, despite many suffering from Malaria.  THAT is a huge praise!

His Safe Haven is so blessed to have such a wonderful and compassionate team and foster moms.  I do want to recognize so many of the foster siblings that are a part of the everyday care of our children too!  This will be the next generation of caring and compassionate individuals advocating for these beautiful children with special needs.  These foster brothers and sisters are amazing with the Haven Children!

Our Beautiful Haven Children

What a wonderful first day here in Liberia!  It was such a blessing to see how well the children are doing.  (Uploading pictures and posting here is a bit difficult with a bad signal and slow computer).

These two beauties always light the room with their smiles!

This sweetheart came to us two months ago, severely malnourished.  She is doing amazing now!

John's huge smile!

Finally sitting on her own!

Quite content after eating:)

 Our smiling boys...

William so content in a room full of kids, as long as he gets his corner to spin around in.

Eric is such a sweet and content boy!

 Precious baby G!                                                                              Sylvester dreaming...

He's always happy to see me!  I love this kids so much!
These cute bundles of love will soon be going home to their own adoptive family.

Please be in prayer for all of the Haven Children.  This rainy season has been particularly rough with a lot of Malaria.  It's not just our children, it's everywhere.

***We will be doing more training this week for therapy, basic care skills and hygiene, more Ebola awareness, and always seeking areas to continue to improve.

This little one we have been monitoring living with his birthmom for the past year.  Unfortunately, I saw him today and he does not look good, and is severely malnourished.  We are coming up with a plan for his care and  moving him into our program soon.
Please be in prayer for him as well as several other Haven Children that still need sponsors.
